Heart disease is no longer considered a “men’s” disease. Before recent studies, women on average received less aggressive treatment for heart disease and were not referred to have diagnostic testing performed as often. Consequently, many women after finally being diagnosed with heart disease had more advanced forms of the disease and their prognosis was not as good as. Health professionals now know that heart diseases affect more women than men and are responsible for more than 40 percent of all deaths in American women.
